Theatre Ģertrūdes ielas teātris (ĢIT) is a contemporary art venue which offers its audiences theatre, dance and interdisciplinary productions, concerts and exhibitions by local and international artists and companies. ĢIT has positioned and proven itself within the Latvian cultural landscape as a place where not only young artists but also the brightest of established Latvian directors implement their ideas. ĢIT is open to artistic experimentation and taking part in producing various art and education-related projects.
The theatre’s mission – to provide a platform for discussion and exchange of thought between artists and audiences on topical historical subjects and issues relevant to our current time and society; to stimulate the processes of Latvian performing arts by aiding artists in developing their signature creative styles with the provision of working space, administrative support, and by promoting their international mobility; as well as expanding audiences of contemporary performing arts.
