“tremolo” is a musical term for the repeated, rapid repetition of a sound, interval or chord.
Director Laura Kutkaitė and her team invite you to a performance-performative lecture on pleasure. The chosen title "tremolo" is interpreted as a vibration - both of pleasure and fear. Fear of not conforming to the "norms" created or imposed by society in the context of sexual pleasure. Fear of living up to the expectations imposed by others, which we so often embody that we don't even notice.
What has been and is being repeated to us many times? What remains silent, but we would like to know, understand and hear from each other so that each of us can feel normal and healthy in our sexual lives?
The director chooses the format of a performative lecture, which best allows her to touch upon the themes of women's knowledge of the body, sexual health and self-esteem through the main prism of sexual pleasure. She combines research-based information with documentary stories of people who identify themselves as women.
"A gentle force" is how the creative team describes the forthcoming work.
Laura Kutkaitė is theatre director. She holds a diploma in Choreography, a degree in Philosophy, later studied directing at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. Her debut production "The Silence of the Sirens" (Lithuanian National Drama Theatre) won her the title of Best Young Director in Europe at the Fast Forward Festival in Dresden in 2022, where she premiered the production with German actors in 2023. In the same year, Kutkaitė was nominated for the Golden Stage Cross for Best Young Artist in Lithuania for her performance "The Breast of Tiresias" (Lithuanian National Drama Theatre). MMLAB (Arts and Science Lab) is professional theatre based in Vilnius, Lithuania. It was founded as a platform for creative projects where artists and scientists collaborated to explore new theatrical forms and subjects. The key MMLAB strategy is experimentation - both in artistic expression and thematic exploration. Now MMLAB supports and presents emerging and established young artists, collaborates with the national and state institutions, and maintains strong international partnerships across Europe and beyond. Each MMLAB project engages a growing number of artists, and the organization has gained recognition among both critics and audiences. Creators are also experimenting by creating installations in unconventional spaces, such as underground passages or old kindergartens. The MMLAB showcase in Riga is the first complex presentation of newest MMLAB productions abroad.
