A performative study about grief and longing centred around the acceptance – and most importantly the bliss – of the unstoppable course of life.

A group of friends meets up again to simply be together. The anticipation is great because there are less and less opportunities to be together, the time goes on and on, and their lives have become more intense.

The table is set, and the drinks are poured out, the music is good, the room has a cosy light, and a cool breeze is coming in from the window. Everything will start soon. They will sit down at the table to start off their evening well, recall about the past and talk about the present, feel the joy of being together and simply be. Everything will start soon. They sit down at the table. And the glasses clink together… But something is wrong. One spot at the table is empty. Someone is missing. And, deep down, we know that we will never see them again.

Tartu New Theatre is an independent and innovative stage in Estonia, known for bold, contemporary productions. What Happens When We Are No Longer Here, directed by Kirill Havanski – a young and exciting talent – is a visually striking and intense performance centered on sensory perception. Sound and lighting design play a central role, shaping the emotional atmosphere and giving presence to what remains unseen.

Kirill Havanski (1995) is a multi-talented Estonian actor, director, and musical designer who joined the Tartu New Theatre company in 2025, contributing both as a director and performer. In addition to his theatre work, Havanski is active in the techno music scene under the pseudonym fakign.

A SPECIAL EVENT BY ROBERT FLEITZ AND STEPHEN WEBB – “PROGRAM SELECTION”

Composers Robert Fleitz and Stephen Webb invite you to a special event – "Program Selection", taking place on September 16 at 19:00 at Ģertrūdes ielas teātris.

Program Selection is a presentation of the creative process and a support event, introducing the collaborative visual-musical performance created by the two artists and offering the opportunity to financially support the further development and completion of the work.

Robert Fleitz and Stephen Webb are professional composers and musicians. They work in an environment without breaks—where every step of artistic expression is observed, evaluated, and compared. The only acceptable goal is excellence. But what would happen if we had the chance to change the rules of the game?

Program Selection is part concert, part performance, part rebellion. The artists deliberately challenge the ideals of the professional sphere, breaking down established hierarchies and searching for a new form of freedom. Is it possible to escape from the system in which you were raised and have lived every day?

The artist duo Robert Fleitz and Stephen Webb pull back the curtain and invite the audience into their creative process, where academic music transforms into a playful, surreal, and at times provocative game.

The audience is invited to experience the work in progress, meet the artists personally, and learn about their creative journey. The event also provides the opportunity to make donations to support the work’s development, with ticket revenue likewise dedicated to this purpose.

Robert Fleitz is recognized in Latvia as a pianist and co-creator of interdisciplinary projects. He has performed at the Cēsis Art Festival, Latvian New Music Days, the Zemlika and Sansusī festivals, at the Latvija Concert Hall, the National Library of Latvia, and as a soloist with the chamber orchestra Sinfonietta Rīga. Exploring the intersection of music theatre and interdisciplinary art, his work includes Rekviēms Pēcnāves Dzīvei (Requiem for the Afterlife) (with Madara Gruntmane and Rihards Plešanovs at the Liepāja Art Forum), Sēdi tuvāk (Sit Closer) (with Matilda Seppälä at the theatre Ģertrūdes ielas teātris), as well as the curation of concert series at TUR Telpa. His debut album Klusa balss (Quiet Voice) was recently released on the SKANI label. Robert holds a Master’s degree in Music from the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music.

Stephen Webb, based in Helsinki, is active across the Baltic region both as a solo artist and through various collaborative networks. His work blends satire and humor to critique our collective tendency to escape reality in today’s complex, technology-driven world. His mono-opera Angels, Instead was presented at the 14th Baltic Triennial at the Rupert Center in Vilnius.

JANA JACUKA’S PERFORMANCE “HA” PREMIERED ON AUGUST 28.

“A friend of a friend put a hand around me, ha, I’m feeling insecure but I just went hahahaha.”

In everyday situations, our boundaries are often crossed, leaving us unsure of how to respond. HA explores the performativity of laughter as an escaping mechanism. By stripping away theatrical distractions, Jana Jacuka’s solo work emphasizes the raw and essential elements of performance, inviting the audience to engage with the visceral experience of extreme vocal practices. HA is an investigation of the voice as a choreographic tool. In HA the voice becomes an extension of the body. She grunts, fry-screams, speaks while inhaling and shifts into communication beyond words.

The choreographer and performer of the production is Jana Jacuka, while dramaturgical support was provided by Eva Susova and Toni Steffens. The dramaturgs are interdisciplinary artists working at the intersection of visual arts and choreography. Eva Susova’s practice encompasses performance, sound, sculpture, and writing, with a particular focus on embodied knowledge, whereas Toni Steffens’ artistic work is grounded in bodily sensitivity, imagination, and emotional empathy as intelligent bodily technologies that help to reconfigure relationships with reality.

The mentor of the production is Miguel Melgares, the consultant is Bruno Listopad, and the text consultant is Joachim Robbrecht, with text editing in collaboration with Nikolas Lange. Vocal coaches are Moa Holgersson, Monica Janssen and Maria Magdalena Kozłowska. The graphic designer is Estere Betija Grāvere, and the photographer is Pēteris Vīksna.

Jana Jacuka (b. 1995) is a choreographer and performer from Latvia. She recently completed the MA programme at DAS Theatre in Amsterdam. Her artistic practice revolves around creating performances from almost nothing, using the body, voice, and text as primary materials. Over the past two years, she has been exploring the voice—particularly the letters H and A—as catalysts for sound. While studying extreme and experimental vocal techniques, she has focused on how the voice can become an extension of the body: how it can be choreographed and how the sounds of it can move an audience.

Jana has collaborated with artists such as Marina Abramović, Damien Rais, Dries Verhoeven, Arno Schuitemaker, among others. Her work has been presented at venues and festivals including Frascati (NL), DansBrabant (NL), AUAwirleben Festival (SWE), Kanuti Gildi Saal and SAAL Biennaal (EE), and the Homo Novus Festival (LV). Her piece The Distance Between Us was named “Performance of the Year 2022/2023” at the Latvian Dance Awards.
