Description

Show description

We live in a time when the word “war” has become part of everyday conversation. Democratic values are being questioned across the globe. Commodity prices continue to rise steadily. A growing list of grim and exhausting problems—becoming ever more complex and severe—pushes people to seek a better life abroad, or to migrate internally to places like Riga or the broader Baltic region.

This raises a pressing question: has this dark period taken on an irreversible course? And what exactly does the future hold for Latvia? Will Latvia still exist in the future? And if it does, will cities like Rēzekne still be a part of it?

In order to explore and question existential issues on both national and global scales, the creative team behind the performance has partnered with young women from the Rēzekne theatre studio “Joriks.”

Together, they will create a performance that portrays Rēzekne and Latvia through their eyes—through their unique, personal stories. It will offer a glimpse into their everyday lives, with all that comes with it: joys, sorrows, victories, losses, dreams, disappointments, and hopes. The result is a collage of diverse impulses, offering space for reflection and speculation about what the future may hold.
