Work in progress showing and fundraiser event
Venue details:
Ģertrūdes iela 101aThe artist duo Roberts Flaics and Stīvens Vebs pull back the curtain to reveal their creative process, where academic music is reimagined as a playful, surreal, and at times provocative game.
Roberts and Stīvens are professional composers and musicians, working in an environment without breaks—where every step of artistic expression is observed, evaluated, and compared. The only acceptable goal is excellence. But what if we had the chance to change the rules of the game?
“Program Selection” is part concert, part performance, part rebellion. They deliberately confront the ideals of the professional world, dismantling traditional hierarchies in search of a new kind of freedom. But is it truly possible to break away from the very system in which you were raised and to which you’ve devoted every day?
Drawing on the traditions of the concert hall as metaphor, Roberts and Stīvens challenge the hierarchy and the cult of perfection in the music world through their queer perspective, inviting audiences to recognize similar structures in their own lives. The space becomes a mirror reflecting the invisible rules that dictate who belongs and who is excluded. At once serious and humorous, absurd and poetic, this work asks us to consider: what rules do we choose to live by?
The audience is invited to experience the work in progress, meet the artists, and explore their creative journey. The premiere of the finished piece is scheduled for 2026.
