The members of a theatre club are putting on a puppet theatre production, when suddenly one of the puppets comes to life and starts acting inappropriately. The foul-mouthed puppet says everything that comes to its mind, surprising even the puppeteer, as well as his schoolmates and teacher. The puppet crosses any and all lines, dragging the other characters into an affair that blurs the boundary between good and evil.
American playwright Robert Askins in his irreverent puppet comedy “Hand to God” plays with the idea that there is something of both good and evil in humans, though it would be expected for both of these sides to remain in balance according to societal norms. In 2014 the play received the Off Broadway Alliance Award as Best New Play. Later it was produced on Broadway and in London. The London production received five Tony nominations, including for Best New Play.
