Description

Hide description

Photographer Yassin Al-Obeidi operates a studio in Baghdad. In the last fifty years he has captured thousands of images depicting children, women, men, families, and newly-weds. The Iraqi photography culture is theatrical, sentimental, restrained and yet extremely intimate. The last forty years have been devastating for Iraq, but the photo studio offers an opportunity to place its client in a more favourable world, one that does not include the presence of war. The theatre production makes use of Yassin Al-Obeidi’s photography archive, which director Elīna Cērpa discovered a few years ago in Amsterdam.

For the first time a rare collection of studio photographs has travelled from Baghdad to Latvia, which will be available to view during the performance.
